FIELD TRIPS

Package 1 / Pre Conference: Kakum National Park ($40) - Minimum, 20 pers.
Date: Saturday January 24, 2009

This is a day’s trip taking us to the Kakum National Park in the Central Region about 3 hours drive from Accra. The package includes a visit to the Cape Coast Castle where the history of the Slave trade is told. We will then proceed to the Park, about 20 minutes away from Cape Coast where we shall have the opportunity of experiencing life above the Jungle floor on the famous Canopy Walkway, the first in Africa and the 4th in the World. The site is one of the Key Important Bird Areas in Africa and the canopy access offers an excellent opportunity for bird watchers to come close to various species of birds

Package 2 / Pre Conference: Tour of the City of Accra ($25) - Minimum, 04 pers.
Date: Sunday, January 25 2009

This one day trip is to give you a feel of the multicultural city of Accra, the capital of Ghana. You will visit the traditional, craft and arts markets as well as important cites of cultural and political importance including the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and the independence square, as well as the Osu Castle, that houses the Head of State. You will also have to opportunity to visit urban wetlands of international importance and the clean beaches of Accra. There is more to see at the all important Makola market with the diversity of the traditional Ghanaian fabrics and wear. You will also enjoy the western cultural side of Accra.

Package 3 / Pre Conference: Afadjato-Agumatsa Range Community Nature Reserve ($40)-
Minimum, 20 pers. Date: Monday, January 26 2009

This is a day’s trip taking us to Afadjato, the highest mountain in Ghana and the Adjoining Agumatsa range provide a cozy serenity for trekking and camping in tents. The mountain which is found within a Community nature reserve managed by local people is the highest in Ghana at 2,905ft. Climbing is physically challenging but you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the surrounding villages, town, deep valleys and the Volta Lake. Being one of the Important Bird Areas in Africa, the offers an excellent opportunity for bird watchers to add to their species list. The adjoining Agumatsa range hosts the Wli Waterfalls which is the highest waterfall in West Africa. This is a 3-hour journey from Accra. On our way we shall pass through the Tafi Atome Monkey Village where we have the opportunity to see three species of monkeys conserved through local and traditional laws.

Package 4 / Post Conference: Amansuri Wetlands ($130) - Minimum 15 pers.
Date: Saturday-Sunday, January 31/February 1st 2009

This is an overnight trip to a wetland site which hosts the village on stilt, Nzulezo.  We shall leave Accra at 5.00am pass through the Kakum National Park spend about 2 hours and then proceed to Nkroful where we shall be lodging. We shall check into our hotel and then trek to Ebonloa, the northern side of the wetland. This site offers an opportunity to ride on local canoes, learn about the local gin (akpetashie) distilleries while canoeing through the canopy.  Then learn about the local plants and their medicinal purposes on the nature trail. The next day we shall drive to Beyin from where, we shall have an hour’s travel by canoe to Nzulezo; you will spend 30 minutes at the village then continue in your canoes for 10 minutes continue on a board walk for another 10 minutes to the Meanda Crocodile Pond. Spend some time at the pond before returning to Beyin. Have Lunch at Beyin and return to Accra.
